This is Dan Madison a member of the Winterset Fire Dept. He knew a lot about the bridges. It was sad to learn that people have set them on fire.

In one case the reason was a fellow  and a girl who had  carved or drawn a sign of their eternal love for one another in one of the bridges.

Well, as things go, she broke up with him - so in anger he torched the bridge containing their glyph!

I have to laugh at folks who have

zoomed through the  Mid-West

and tell me how bored they were

with nothing to see.
